    Default Cat scratching

We have a beautiful Tortoiseshell cat. Wonderful animal with a bad habit which is getting worse.
She is destroying the carpet with her scratching.
We brought her a scratch thingy which she totally ignores. We put sellotape in the areas she was scratching. All she did was move to another area.
Thinking of getting a Animal trainer. Does anyone know of anyone in Auckland.
    Ideas welcome.

We trained ours by using a water pistol on them when they did it. You have to squirt them while they are doing it, worked on both our cats.

Alternatively just drug them to hell and turn them into zombies

Since lead isn't an option try full metal jackets i.e full copper wrapped.

Water pistol sounds like a good place to start.

    This stuff.
And get a small carpet mat or something and make her her own scratchy thing, they hate the shop ones and love carpet.

Made one when we got her. It was a remnant of the original. Not interested.

Part of it is scent marking. On her paws and face, they leave scent...........same as when they spray, but less er...toxic.
Rub her face on it a bit, to get her scent on it...it might help, and use the Vitapet stuff on places you want to discourage her scratching.

Or try one of those outdoor mats....with the coir stuff, they like using those.

Once, I've read cats are doing this frequently when they are emotionally stressed..Especially, when it feels threatened by environmental changes or a new pet.. Could be one of these reason casues this behaviour?
