    Default Targus Lap Chill Mat

    Hi,

My Chill Mat, Targus AWE55AU, made rattling sound because lots of dust around its fan.

Does anyone know what is the best way to open it? I can't see screw /pins around it.

    Thank you

    Hi,

    Thanks for the link.
My one is different because it covers by rubber (??) and I have problem to open it except cut by knife /Scissor.

Have a look on the sides under the fans, Does it look exactly the same as the picture below, if not then can you take some pictures and post back.

Looking at all the reviews the AWE55 has screws you can remove, then you unclip the top/bottom. Normally the AU at the end means a country AU = Australia

You may be able to clean it out with compressed air if you are careful.
Save you having to open it.

    Hi,

    Sorry for late reply.

I have taken some photos of my chill mat but have no idea how to attach them in this post.

    Wainutech:
    - Pictures are different than yours.
    - I can’t see any screw or pin around fans.

    Driftwood:
Yes, I have used a compressed air duster but there is still dust around fans.

    Thanks

I doubt that some dust on and around the fans is causing the issues (unless its 100% caked up)

Fans wear out . Replace them .
Are you 100% sure its the fan rattling and not something else, perhaps the fan has become loose ?

Otherwise, get in there with a toothbrush or small paint brush to remove dust .
You'll need to find a way to open the case , it may just have plastic clips that need to be uncliped or forced apart . There may also be hidden screws under stickers or even under rubber feet.
Just keep googling to find instructions for the exact model you have

There are size limits, I tried several times to post a desktop screenshot but it was close to 3MB and didn't work, had to reduce it to under 1MB then it went fine.

Possibly Just a bad design (or cheap nasty fans), could be a common issue .

    I'd bet Not dust related

My files are in JPEG file extensions.

What I can see from the top and sides of chill mat are dust. When rattling sound happened, I knocked the chill mat couple times and it becomes quite.
    Thanks for the link
