There's a small gamble IMHO with 6 core / 12 thread CPUs, they are awesome right now and should be for a couple years I just don't know if 8 cores will be a better choice in the long run. I never keep my machines long enough to worry normally.

I think if you plan to keep it as long as possible without upgrading again then it's possibly worth spending a bit more now.

Your CPU doesn't dictate which GPU you use - pairing an AMD CPU with a nVidia GPU is pretty much common place now... because AMD is the "better" CPU (price and performance) and nVidia GPU's are better than AMD's current offerings.

G-sync compatible GPU's will work on a number of FreeSync/FreeSync compatible monitors - though this may not be true for some earlier models.

Which monitor are you using? What exactly are you concerned about?

There are no issues with moving to AMD with your current setup - you can move to an AMD platform and still get the "benefits" of your G-sync monitor and GPU.

To be honest a lot of people would love to be in your position given you're sporting a 2080 Super... next to the 2080Ti that is the best card available.

As I mentioned before, if I were you I'd go with a Ryzen 7 3700X and a B550 motherboard and get some faster memory 3200/3600Mhz.

Gaming.
You don't except for this...but an upgrade is fine, I used to about every second year, when I was gaming.

A 6700K is still a great gaming CPU for all but a few games, but it is getting a bit dated.

I'd also go for the Ryzen 3700K if It was me.

Like I said earlier, you guys have opened a new can of worms now.
I've gone back to the drawing board.
Had a look at comparisons with Ryzen.
Now considering Intel i5-10600K on Asus Z490-E
A bit more expensive, but I like the higher base clock speed.

Thought I'd update this thread.
I couldn't find a i5-10600k so went with a i7-10700k.
Also went with a different mobo, Asus Tuf Gaming Z490-Plus.
Got round to swapping it over today, but are having some issues.
First one:
The ATX Power requires an 8 pin plus a 4 pin.
My Silverstone SS-ST60F-ES only has the 8 pin, so will have to update that.
However a browse on the forums suggests it's not necessary unless running 32gb or more of memory or,
OC'ing.

Second issue:
Bit more serious.
System wont boot into windows.
Starts fine in bios & shows my 2 SATA data drives & the M.2 with the OS on it.
But if I go to Boot Priority, it says "The system couldn't find any bootable devices"
Thinking there may be an issue with the M.2, I tried another hard drive with a working OS on several of the SATA ports.
No joy at all.
I will order another PSU anyway but somehow don't think that will solve issue No 2.
Any help or advice appreciated.
