ads in web browser? what browser? pc or mobile?
I use ublock or adblock ultimate, both are good for web browsers.
You can also use adblock proxies which blocks known ip addresses of advertising networks, which can stop ads in apps.
Yes, ads in a web browser - Chrome and it's a PC running 10.
I'll give ublock a try, then,
Thanks for your help, Kame.

Let us know how it goes for you because it really is a good adblocker.
Another vote for uBlock
Ublock.
But in Firefox at least, you can right click and select block element. Select the popup and create.
That removes those annoying things that come up (pay requests and such) on sites you use regularly.

Yeah, the latest Firefox is pretty good at blocking many ads and trackers. Malwarebytes has additional ad/tracker blocking which covers the rest quite nicely.

I find this is a useful addon for stubborn, unwanted things on web pages:

It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

Sounds like you have downloaded software from Softonic and have been caught with their added on unwanted software
Run Awdcleaner https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewd.../1-adwcleaner/ as this gets rid of unwanted programs and Malware
