Default Toshiba laptop keyboard playin up.

I have a Toshiba L55-C5392 which the build quality is not as good as previous Toshiba laptop that I owned.
Its a 2016 model and the webcam stopped working just after a year, and now the hinge is wonky for the screen but the keyboard is not working with all the keys.
Is there a fix that I can try.

Removing the driver completely for the keyboard and seeing if Windows (assuming that is what you are running) reinstalls it, or you get the drivers yourself. You may need to attach a usb keyboard (also good to test a keyboard does work and its not software issue but this could still indicate driver)

If still no go, then opening it up and reseating the ribbon cable in the clip retainer would be next and if that is no go, time to order a keyboard replacement for it.

Disassembling a laptop isn't the job of an ordinary end user! *

    * in most cases.

    Thats very true.

Going by the model number provided Toshiba L55-C5392 if that's correct and the keyboard looks like this one ( same model)

Then to change the keyboard its basically a disassemble to a degree. You have to completely remove the top cover, and Often people who don't know what they are doing end up breaking one or more of the several connection ribbons underneath or the cover mounting lugs in the case itself. Some rough buggers actually damage the motherboard or other internal components.

Once the cover is off, you then have to unscrew brackets holding the keyboard in place, some times removing stuck down ribbons (without damaging them) / internal covers as well, pop out the keyboard from the inside of the top cover then replace and reassemble.

If you look at the actual Replacement Keyboard:

You can notice the spaces between the keys, thats the areas the Top Cover sits and the keys poke through the Cover plate.

Mostly I get mine from a Dealer in Auckland called Raytech But I have an account with them so don't know if they sell direct to the public, I "think" they do but cant guarantee it. Sometimes they dont have stock but can get it if you contact them and ask.

Other times I just get them in fro Overseas, Aliexpress usually, they are Brand new parts, just take a bit longer to get here and often half the price.

Dont know if this link will work, but here's one thats meant to be for the model advised. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000075420170.html

    If not then a pic:

Sometimes you cant go by the model number, so what I go by is after removing the component there's a actual Product code on it somewhere, (For Keyboards) either on the back or on the actual Ribbon.

The repair video clip I posted shows the disassembly, keyboard renewal and reassembly
of the Toshiba L55. It also lists all of the replacement parts available for that model.
I would open it up and first check the seating of the ribbon cable in its socket being careful
with the fragile retaining clips. A broken clip is often the cause of poor connection leading
    to intermittent or partial functionality.

Maybe so, but that's not the L55-C5392 thats advised in original post. The video link shows the L55-C650 and L650 - different models.

Look up the model advised L55-C5392 and you'll see its totally different.

Look on that site you posted the link to, search for the actual model L55-C5392 - The keyboard they show is totally different to the video. Different shape, different spacing between keys. There are at least 38 Different L55 Models.

Yes Wainui, thanks for pointing that out. Just shows how careful we need to be.
I searched for the L55-C5392 and up came the L55 video which I assumed to be
for that model unaware of the many variations, Thanks.
