Angry Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Motherboard Bios Fubar'd

I foolishly flashed the latest bios on my motherboard to upgrade the cpu support, and in doing so absolutely ruined it. I get fans, not post, no display, no usb activity, no dvd activity, and the boot light ends at DRAM in the boot process. I have tried all manner of troubleshooting including crashfree bios 3. But I'll cut right to the chase.

I'm hoping someone can flash me a working bios onto a chip, which I am not afraid to compensate well for.

Otherwise, I'm looking for an ATX mobo compatible with an i5 6600k.

    Thank you.

Unfortunately not possible, can't get to bios via any means. Can't flash any bios from USB or DVD. Cmos reset does nothing. Power cycling ineffective.

It's assured the bios is unreadable, no method has worked.

I ordered a replacement BIOS chip off Ebay for one of mine, didn't work but it was worth a shot

Maybe a repair place with an Eeprom machine can reflash it, do pc techs do that?

    Thanks for the reply

I've searched local PC repair shops locally (Masterton), and they don't have anything available to flash a new bios. I would fine sending it in NZ to get it done however.

And I'm only interested in mobo, but thanks

Ring ASUS NZ and ask them.

They should be able to fix it for you.

And next time remember Rule 1: Don't fix it if it isn't broken.

Have a look here , not an isolated instance . Its not looking good
    https://rog.asus.com/forum/forumdisp...rboards-(Z170)

You'd be shocked at how poorly tested firmware updates can be. Ive had firmware updates cause SERIOUS issues several times, even on new servers
The manufacturer can even put the wrong bios/firmware update on the website for download (it happens)

If you need to update for CPU support or to fix other issues, then you dont have any choice but to try it & hope like hell it doesnt brick the thing

I watched a supplier flash the wrong firmware onto a motherboard and toast it once, no problem for me I got a new motherboard
Point being there are often multiple very similar boards and version numbers and getting the right BIOS can be difficult to be sure of some times.
And as said sometimes it's just bad firmware.

I should mention, when I said getting a replacement BIOS chip from Ebay didn't work I meant it arrived and didn't fix my issue which I'm pretty sure wasn't the BIOS anyway. It behaved exactly like the original chip which I presume means it was probably ok. I just had a dead motherboard and I thought $10 for a BIOS chip was worth a shot. Must throw that board out, it's still sitting around in my office - mainly as a place to store the i3 cpu on it :0

    Anyone want an i3 2100 lol ?

Again, thanks for the replies, I knew the writing was on the wall and I think I'm getting past my denial now.

Dugimodo, do you still have your bios chip? If you said it worked as original, it may work in this case. If it is indeed a Z170 Pro Gaming (not A, or P anything). Of course I'd happily pay for it.

I will give Asus a ring today, but since this is a decommissioned model I'm not hopeful.
