I thought that as well and wondered if anyone would post that thought.

Then you hear their PM say that GM just sucked the company dry. Mind you, after his " Holiday in Hawaii is more important than the bush fire crisis", we know how clever he is!

I have owned Holdens, and Opels. They were both produced by General Motors, but the Holdens were rust buckets which couldn't travel in a straight line, leaked oil, stripped timing gears (as did the Chevs).
The Opel Kapitan was much better in all respects, and well assembled (German).
I have owned a few old Ford V8's, 1934, 1935, 1946. They never let me down travelling on metal, muddy roads.
I had a 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster, it was a beautiful car but over two years it broke a half shaft, stripped a timing gear, got a cracked block, and broken chassis!
The best car was a 1961 Ford Falcon which took me all over East Africa, and down to Zambia. The only problem I had was the fuel tank being damaged by stones. I fitted a guard, and another tank in the boot for the trip to Zambia. One stretch of road had no fuel, or water for 500 miles. I would say that Ford have been the most reliable cars.

    The Fords in my life were, 1934 V8, 1935 V8, 1946 V8, 1929 Model A, 1931 Model A, Thames Van 100E, Anglia 105E, 1948 Mercury V8, 1961 Ford Falcon

Try that trip in an EV. You would need a bl**dy long extension cord in the boot

The old Belmont our family had around 73.I think it was a 186? Then the 3 geared - I think Kingswood. For car manufacture's is it Ford just Ford. Whereas as Big USA greedy GM had bought and disrupted UK/Euro car manufacturer's and their dealer networks- , Opel, Vauxuall, and Holden - possibly more than they could contend with eventually.

The Holdens, 73 Belmont I think had a very good reputation in Africa for long distance travel at high speed without breaking down.
It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche
