There might be some truth in that, if I actually had Windows 10 installed as my OS.

But I was already heading away from Windows as my main OS by the time Windows 8 came out, I've never installed Win 10 on my own machine, still running 7. And I only use that probably 10% of the time now.

Maybe W10 will grudgingly make an appearance on my machine for the sake of any W10 exclusive and highly desirable games, assuming Linux/Wine/Proton/Whatever doesn't catch up before that.

But daily internet & office etc use? Hardly. Linux has that covered for me, hands down.

    Iím the same.

Having unceremoniously dumped Win10 some 3 years ago I was helped by Rod J, Kame, Karamea Dave, Fred Fish, and others to get Linux Mint 18.0 up and running and have never looked back.

    Big thanks to you all.

Iíve installed 100ís of upgrades since, mostly security, and not one has broken the system.

Everything just works, and whilst I have tried newer versions of Mint on a test machine, I have never found one reason to upgrade to a later version than Mint 18.0 Ė Cinnamon.

So come on you other Mint users and tell me what Iím missing by not upgrading.

    Not any. Most.
I have a Unix guru friend. Been doing it for nearly his entire working life, he is now retired.
I had an issue a while back, rang him and asked for solution, something totally, how the..had they DONE such a thing in the first place issue?
He gave me a solution, but meanwhile I'd been googling and found 2 others.

    His was code...
    This was on boot.
The first one I tried worked so didn't need his more involved one. I have kept the details anyway, you never know...

Yes sometimes a help already published isn't helpful, but I have found - with the actual Linux forum anyway, if you ask, and you say, tried this, tried that, my specifics are X,y,z then someone does help. Properly. Never mind the lame answer ones you may get as well.

You could say the same here.

Someone asked, what O/S could he try?

The thing with finding answers to Linux problems online is to be aware how old some of the answers are. If it's more than five years ago (definitely if more than ten years) it will quite probably not apply to your more recent system. I mean, if it was Windows would you think a fix for Windows XP or even Windows 7 now would work in Windows 10? Not likely.

True that. We all have our biases.

    Any one got any suggestions?

If you think, undiejuice, that switching operating systems will solve your problems, then you are about to magnify them (ie make them bigger - quite a bit bigger). Use the time well and learn how Windows 10 operates, rather than spending time with another operating system which demands much more time to learn.

    It's their choice.
I have, as I said, installed Mint for a few people now. Not IT people at all, and they all, without a single one otherwise, have said how easy they have found it.

It's not necessarily learning that people object to with Win10. I avoided it for totally different reasons.

I'm the same, done 5 for mates most of whom are nearer 80yo than 70yo and they think Mint is great.

They struggled with XP so had no chance with Win10.

One of my Linux Servers went crook, tried to get help from various linux Forums for over a month - totally useless, ended up rescuing the data from it, install Server2012 - been running perfect ever since.
Probably says more about your approach than the help available.

Most of the time any sort of answer is reinstall the OS -- F**** off not a good option.

1st point Bull Sh!t, been several times here esp when someone wants help with linux certain people disappear. Wonder why ?? There's only two people here who run Linux that are worth listening to WHEN a problem pops up - and your not one of them.

As I mentioned I had a Linux server problem - didn't even bother asking here as even the dedicated server forums couldn't help, and these are people who claim to be Linux Server experts.

As for office -- Uninstalling is the VERY LAST step. Mind you some people cant do any BASIC trouble shooting. That goes for any Office or other Programs.

Guess if you uninstall your Office at the slightest problem its your choice.

Cant actually remember the last Time I've had to uninstall office to fix it - I actually found the problem and done the fixes required. Simply -- Uninstalling and reinstalling the program may not actually solve the problem.
