or is it all on the parents or their student loan?
Lots of assumptions based on personal bias ?

Way back, many didnt NEED night or weekend jobs for Uni. Some students paid for it all themselves, some didnt
Today, many dont NEED part time work. Some students pay for it all themselves, some dont .
When I went to ATI (2 years) in my 30's , I used the student loan to live on . Most young students in my classes lived with their parents so didnt need to rack up the same amount of student debt

Im sure a huge difference will be in actual costs to the student today, compared to the past when the govt paid most of it (?)
Back when I left school, Uni (and ATI) was so cheap thats just where everyone went as they had no idea of what they planned to do with their lives. Many dropped out after a year or less .
So cant compare today with the past, simply not the same .

I have a friend (solo mum - working 40 hours a week)) with two children at polytech
They are always short of cash - rent power groceries
So I recommend that they both get a part time job.
But I keep getting told by the mother that they need all their spare time to study.
That is why I am asking.

is it possible to work and do homework etc?
So what colour is your Adkaf?
Have you joined Proud to Be Kiwi yet?

I very much depends on the individual their motivation and just what they wish to achieve. With some people it is a complete waste of time and money to go to University with others the reverse is true.
I have offspring in both categories. I believe that one should not try to make things too easy for them and they should support themselves.

Definitely is - and apologies if I jumped to conclusions around your original intentions.I work around 20 hours a week with a full-time course load.

I know someone who worked just about full time, attended barely any lectures and passed with honours. I know someone else who studied really hard didn't work and scraped through. It really does depend on the person everyone is different
