    Not really most of your software will no longer work, unless you are happy to learn a whole new set of programs which most people are not.

    Also Linux Mint uses a reasonable amount of resources itself these days and won't necessarily run quickly either. There are lighter versions of it using KDE though and other distros designed for low powered hardware.
    If all you do is browse the internet and read your E-mail it might be worth considering linux. Mint is pretty fully featured for new users but that doesn't mean you won't find yourself using the command line at some point, not for everyone.

    I use the command line quite often; most of the time I don't know what I am doing. Usually software vendors that require the command line to install their software, have instructions on their websites.

    I find 2GB adequate for Windows 10 32bit on old machines.
