Default ? System Restore in Windows 10

I'm just asking? Someone told me today that System Restore doesn't work in Windows 10 - is that the case? And is there any caveats around it?

    TIA for replies.

Yes it does. What happens is when Windows upgrades it removes all the previous restore points ( no reason to have them as its a new OS installed) Sometimes it disables when this happens but you can simply turn it back on again if you want.

I've been having a few 'Bad Hair Days'... Where do I go to do that?

I get a message saying 'Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.' And do I need to be logged on as the Administrator?

Again - thanks for your help.

Quickest way to get to Restore - In the Search, type in System Restore You'll get a option to create a restore point (all the working are there)

If that error message is When restoring it may be some sort of Security ( Antivirus) for example, which would need to be turned off before running a restore ( can create fine usually)

I am on Win 10 Build `1903. On Sunday 1 Sept I got 2 Win updates. Result I could not open any of my Office 365 Home applications.
I tried System Restore and selected a Restore point which said Automatic. It went on forever saying System Restore is initialising. I knew that could not be true after 2 hours so stopped it. I shut down laptop and had dinner. I then rebooted and selected a prior Manual System Restore Point. """Restore is initialising took ages but then my spirits lifted when I saw it moved to "Restoring the Registry"
BUT 5 hours later (now 3am) that message was still showing on screen so I cancelled. Monday morning (3rd try) I finally got a good person at Microsoft who when I quoted error code )oX000012fh said Office corrupted . Tried Quick Repair - no joy then an uninstall of Office was done and a whole Office 365 reinstallation done - morning gone but Office working again. I now have the link to do the Repair myself saved.
This interference with Office 365 is the second time this has happened after a Win update (not a build version change)

Can anyone one comment re my 2 System Restore failures?
In the past I have done it and it was quite quick

Stopping a system restore when its doing its thing is a dangerous action to do. When restore is running its undoing any changes , and restoring back the Registry as well. Just because its been quick in the past means nothing.

It depends on whats actually happening and having to do, it has to remove any programs installed, any updates and various other tasks ever since the restore point was created.

Sometimes depending on whats changing your antivirus may be slowing things down, as thats being put backwards as well.

Other times the system may just have gotten corrupted someplace and the restore points along with it.

Basically I work on the theory that if you have to stop a system restore be prepared for a total F*** up and ready for a reinstall.
