Default Toshiba laptop boot up problems

Iíve an old Toshiba laptop. Some time ago the battery packed in and I have a vague memory of having to alter the registry to make it boot without a battery off the mains. Bought a new (Toshiba) battery the other day and it wonít start unless the battery is out and itís plugged in to the AC feed. Any knowledge on how to reverse this? Even with the AC in and the battery in push the power button and nothing happens

    Cheers

With the battery Out boot into the BIOS, reset it back to defaults. Put the Battery Back in and it should work as default.

Could it be the CMOS battery? How would you tell if that is poked?

Anythings possible, had Computers before that wouldn't boot, change the battery and away it goes.

. Unless you have the measuring equipment to check it you would be just as easy to replace it. They are cheap enough you can buy from any grocery shop or anywhere that has a battery Stand.

" it won’t start unless the battery is out and it’s plugged in to the AC feed "

that 'new' batt may be faulty or not 100% compatible.
Some laptops can detect non genuine batts, but the ones Ive seen with that do boot up after a warning message .

It could also be a fault in the charging circuitry causing the issue .

Hi, it is a genuine Toshiba battery from my understanding. It runs after I boot without battery and then add the battery. If I pull out the AC then it dies after 2 seconds or so. One interesting thing is that it only recognised the battery after a reboot with it in (yes if the battery is in and I restart via the OS it starts fine with The battery in providing AC is plugged in also)
