Default Update to Win 10 Build 1903-Installation Failed

    I am extremely frustrated.
MSoft stated -now publicly safe re updating to Build 1903.

I downloaded the exe file Win Update Assistant - 5.9xx MB to Desktop.
The Checklist said my laptop was Ok.
I then copied it to my External DVD Drive with a formatted DVD in it. I then ran it as Administrator.
Downloading took hours. Whilst this was going on normal Build 1809 updates occurred.
I got to about 90% Installation and it failed -Error Code 0x80040155 which I looked up.
It suggested disabling Anti Virus - I use 360 Total Security (free).
I 'm sure at one stage during update attempt I got a message from 360 but I clicked on "allow all"

I tried again -this time getting Error Code 0x80070005.
I looked this up and the link to MS Support had a longwinded process involving NOTE but the person stated "experimental -not guaranteed".
Since I had 2 different Error messages I tried a third time but installation failed again.
I need to do urgent work tomorrow but will try again later.
Under Tsk manager Startup Tab I selected 360 Total Security clicked from enable to disable but nothing happened.
Should I try something else to temporarily disable 360 TS?.

This is the first time I have had problems with Win 10 Build upgrades -today I've wasted many hours.

    Suggestions please.

Totally remove 360 Total Security, simply disabling it often doesn't really stop it.

Doing updates and upgrades at the same time is not going to go to well.

What you should have done is first manually run Windows updates, there is a cumulative update that comes through before 1903 is offered. Sometimes depending on how you are connected as well (wireless or Ethernet), on wireless you may not be offered it yet Via the updates.

One thing I have found over the last couple of years is most of the update problems happen if a person is only using wireless. Plug the computer into Ethernet and far less problems. In Fact I NEVER upgrade via Wireless , simply to many failures ( sometimes not the OS but the wireless its self).

The easiest way to get 1903 if its not offered is either by going to the media creation tool, and either downloading the ISO or clicking on upgrade now. You want to allow a couple of hours at least. Some computers I've done have upgraded within 30 minutes or less, others have taken a few hours.

SOMETIMES if the download gets corrupted you have to go into Windows /SoftwareDistribution folder, rename it, example SoftwareDistribution.old, Restart computer, this will make windows start from fresh with any update downloads. Just to throw a spanner in the works -- the renaming has to be done in safe mode, OR you have to stop all the update services in normal mode ( safe mode is easier).

    Question;
I downloaded the exe file Win Update Assistant - 5.9xx MB to Desktop.
The Checklist said my laptop was Ok.
I then copied it to my External DVD Drive with a formatted DVD in it. I then ran it as Administrator.
Why burn it to a DVD ?? Its only a exe file that downloads the upgrade which in turn saves it to a hidden folder on your C drive. OR do you mean it was actually the ISO you downloaded and Burnt ???

    Why ?
Thats just adding another point of possible issues .

Uninstall that Chinese AV. You can re-install it later
Do you have plenty of free space on the C: ?
Try making an ISO instead & upgrade with that

Rush rush rush to get 1903 , for no other reason than having it early. Learn nothing from the past.
MS cant test 1903 in every possible system with all possible 3rd party software & drivers. Why the rush to install it.

Just done two upgrades yesterday, went 100% perfect.

1 Was via the upgrade Now option from the media creation tool site, the other Via a DVD I created from the ISO downloaded.

Both took awhile, but the DVD was slightly faster as it didn't have to download anything apart from some small updates.

Both running as expected, just need to check on some setting that I disable and to run the cleanup to remove the windows.old to get some room back.

Thanks for last update tip, Wainui.
YAY finally success using the Media Creation Tool and the UPgrade Now option.
    Last prior unsuccessful attempt:
last night I downloaded the ISO file. Today I went to execute it as per MS website instructions. I did the Change bit but it would not allow me to choose Windows Explorer (C:\Windows|explorer.exe. I even changed the ISO to open with 7Zip and extracted files but clicking on setup.exe got an error message so I gave up on that method .(In prior years I had used ISO OK) and resorted to the Upgrade now as per first sentence
Great relief to finally have 1903 running. Now to familiarise myself with various new features.
Many thanks again for your valuable guidance.

For future reference - With ISO's you can just right click them - Mount, this creates a virtual Drive.

Updated to 1903 on Saturday... took about 25 minutes 2 restarts.

All seems to well and the issues about File Explorer here appear to now be resolved too.
