    Default MS essentials removal

    Hi Team,
    I got a win 7 pro laptop.
There is a version of MS Essentials installed on it which is causing me a lot of problems.

I have been spectacularly unsuccessful in removing it.
Apparently I need "permission" to do this.

Any help with the removal of this beast will be very welcome.

    Cheers,
    J

Login as a user with admin rights
was this laptop ever on a corporate network , are you logging in as an old user that wont have full permissions ?

    otherwise
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-nz/...1-0-1963-if-yo

or you may some some corruption of the permissions in either the registy or folders
or Group Policies have been changed (possible if it was once on a corporate network)

No, I have owned it from new.
I log in as only user with full permissions.

Have tried all afternoon deleting the beast and/or parts of it to no avail.

Everything else program and data wise works OK.

MS essentials has worked for the past year or so but seem to have taken exception to a recent update.
Will follow link above and report on what happens.
    Cheers.

BITDEFENDER is a legit Antivirus program

    - its not a MS program
    - it doesnt just install itself, ever

Did you mean Windows Defender ? Thats the standard MS AV in windows7
Windows Defender cant be uninstalled (without some hacking) , it can be disabled . Bitdefender is better :-)

    oops, sorry.
It should have been .....Windows Defender

Is this a "good and useful" application ?
Or just a resource waster ?

Over all the years that I have had this m/c and win 7, (pro ver 6.1.7601 sp1 since about 2008), this app has never been active before.

If it doesn't give me ant (new) problems It can stall there I guess.
    Your thoughts ?
    Cheers,
