    Default AA Smart fuel cards

Just looking into linking ours with Contact Energy.

    https://www.aa.co.nz/aasmartfuel/sho...ontact-energy/

If I'm reading it correctly, that's a $15 discount on 50lts of fuel.

    Who takes the hit?
Or do we pay extra for our power to be linked to the card?

You wont pay anything extra on your power.

We have AA Smart fuel cards, and they work really well.
You have till the end of the following month to use any savings, so you can accumulate the amount. You have to spend $40 or more to get points / cents at the service station, but other places may give you a cent or two for less.

SWMBO has her countdown card linked as well, so what we do is take one or both the cars, and fill them off the same pump, as long as you don't go over 50ltrs, last one we saved 58 cents / per ltr. Just looked at the app, we have a further 29 cents accumulated with 11cents expiring in 13 days, so best use it

The most we have saved up and used at once was $1.02 / per ltr.

How it generally works around here is I spend $40, save the 6 cents (normal amount) sometimes they have higher, 10 cents /ltr, then once a month swmbo uses them all

Looking on the App we so far have saved $446.19 in the time we have had it -- better $$ in my pocket than the petrol companies.

Everyone essentially, it's built into BPs profit. If they're discounting at the pump then there's obviously some fat built into the pump price to factory that in.

Ever notice how the price goes up just before an 10c promotion is announced?

Whoever is giving you the discount, so in this case Contact Energy.
Although you'll be paying for the discount as part of your power bill anyway.

We looked at giving AA fuel rewards here at work but it was just going to cost too much.

You need to use the discounts based on GasSpy app. In Auckland and Northland at least there is huge variation in prices even for the same supplier company, like nearly 30 cents. Use your discounts on the best deal that is reasonably close

No, no, no. Buy the dearest petrol available. 15% off $3.50/litre is a far larger saving than getting 15% off that nasty $2.00 petrol.
Just remember, you get what you pay for.

I have compared various fuel programmes and the AA Smartfuel programme is better worth it than the Z Energy (Flybuys) and the Mobile program.

Even when Z Energy had triple flybuys. Z Energy is per 20L of fuel not dollars; that is 1 Flybuy. Today $2.35/L for Unleaded 91 so $47 to get 1FB. 1FB = $0.17 value. 3x = under 60c. AA Smartfuel is often 10c per $40. When you redeem you put it towards a max of 50L so that is $5. Yes, with AA you get the discounted at the end but not at the time when you pick up the points. I did a spreadsheet and the AA still works out.

At the end of the day here in Wellington all the petrol stations are pretty much exactly the same. We find Levin and Bulls and maybe Otaki cheaper. They can be up to 15 or 20c cheaper. They're also not Gull, but Caltex and Z and BP.

Spreadsheet shows 16 visits to the petrol station. I have kept the petrol easier ie $2/L which is now not the case.

AA Smartfuel does $40 fill each time. Z Energy does 20L each time.

AA Smartfuel gets no discount and then uses it at the end for 50L discounted. Spent $640 (320L x $2/L) and saved $80. AA often gets the weekly 10c off per litre.

Z Energy. Earns $1 per 100L of fuel. So 320L = $3.20 in Airpoint Dollar or equiv Flybuys. Often they have a 6c off per litre. Saving further $19.20 for this 320L. To fully compare, Z Energy also does a 50L fill at the end - 50L = $0.50 in APD ($1 per 100L) and the 6c off per litre of fuel - $3.50. Z Energy saves in total $25.90. This lags over $50 behind AA Smartfuel. So even if they offer triple flybuys it only goes from $3.20 to almost $10, an increase of just $6.

Could be different. But in Wellington with a composite meter we have always found Meridien and Contact Energy more expensive. Even after factoring Contact's 23 or so discount. Genesis eSaver contract is 33.33c per day for low user and 19.89c per unit or composite meter for us is 17.47c. Standard user is $1.71 daily charge with 19.89c for most people per unit or us composite meter is 17.47c.

The above Flybuys and APD can be used interchangeably. I just used APD as it i was easier to compare with their dollar values.

$5? Mobil hand out those cards, buy $50 and get $5 off, buy $30 and get $3 off.

Down the road they are $2.31. Gull with cheap pump is $2.26.
Self serve Gull further away is $2.05.
