New Router

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to replace the Spark provided router pretty soon, but i'm not sure what to replace it with.

I've been looking at the Asus routers recently

Are there any other brands/setups I should look at instead?

I seem to remember on here awhile ago, a setup of a TP-link router a ubiquiti modem thing, but is that the way to go?

What's your problem with the free Spark router/modem? They will replace it F.O.C if it's faulty, just a phone call away.

The signal strength aint that great, we have to keep resetting it every so often.

ISP provided routers are as cheap as they can get them. If they work for you as you want by all means use them and as pointed out by bkT above they can be replaced at no cost. I understand that they are likely to have a backdoor built into them so I guess it depends just how paranoid you are as to weather or not that bothers you. I have now installed all Ubiquiti gear an EdgerouterX and an Access Point. This stuff is not cheap but it works perfectly and depending just how far you wish to go you can set it up to work just how you wish. For example you can set up a seperate network for your kids to use which can be time limited and blocked from unsuitable content.

dont expect wifi miracles just from replacing the router (although sometimes can help somewhat)

Also, does the new router also need to be ADSL, VDSL, Fibre . I wouldnt bother getting anything that doesnt
support VDSL AND fibre

If you just wanted a new wifi access point, thats another story :-)

We're running fibre at home.

I'll look into it further
