Default Couldn't log on to Win7 home.

Couldn't log on to Win7. Pretty sure password is correct.

Error: "The user profile Service failed the log on. User Profile cannot be loaded"

I could, however, log on to my account in Safe Mode with the same password.

Log on to Safe Mode, removed the password, but still could not log on.

Logged on to Safe mode again, changed to a new password, logged out, Still, couldn't log on.

The user profile is damaged somehow. It can be fixed BUT requires you to dive in the registry and make several alterations.

WARNING: If you re not 100% happy playing about in the reg then DONT. Make sure you make a restore point first. !!

    Follow these instructions: EXACTLY fix-the-user-profile-service-failed-the-logon-issue-for-windows-7/
One thing positive about Windows 10 is that there is never a dull moment anymore on ye olde computer

I logged on the Safe Mode and did a System Restore to a latest restored point fixed the issue. It seems to be a Windows Update problem! The restore point was created by the Windows update.

I just reset Windows Update to 'Never Check', - it's not a good idea but it's better than not able to start the PC.

Now that the problem has been solved, I have nothing to say.

    .
You'll possibly find that this issue happens again, and again. And again , untill properly fixed (new profile or reload , also check HD)
    usually not an update issue , I'd guess thats a co-incidence .

I also suspected the HDD probably has a problem and I have checked with Crystal Disk and ran Seatools to check, all OK. I do know that it may not be 100% accurate.

Anyway, will use it for the time being until one day, when ....

    Cheers.
