Default DNS - Who do you use?

I have generally just gone along with the DNS provided by whoever my ISP is at the time. Is there any advantage in using Google or any of the other public Domain Name Servers out there?

If you use Google's DNS, you lose any local caching that your ISP or their upstream providers may use, other than that you're not likely to see any noticeable difference. I would just stick with the DNS servers from your ISP unless you're having some sort of issue.

Been using 1.1.1.1 lately. (or 1.0.0.1)
Also 9.9.9.9 for some extra protection but it is a bit slower, about the same as Google's DNS.

Pinging 1.1.1.1 from here at work shows about a 4ms response.
Pinging 9.9.9.9 or 8.8.8.8 both are around 27-28ms.

Yeah. I think I had that with youtube using wrong servers for NZ , when I used 8.8.8.8 . Caused some glitching of the vid stream .
    Or just co-incidence ?

A video stream probably shouldn't have had issues, but if your provider's international bandwidth at the time was a bit oversubscribed it could definitely cause issues.

I've always had best performance using my ISPs DNS.
Have never tried Googles, but I'd imagine that would be the same as letting them track you even more easily, whereas my ISP has better things to do than collect and sell my history (I trust).

FWIIW I have been trying out 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 for the last week. They are as fast or faster than my ISP's one and I have experienced no adverse effects whatever. That DNS belongs to Cloudflare and is claimed to be more secure than others.
