Default DirectX 8 ---- Getting rid of it and going back to 7

How do I get rid of Direct X 8 and go back to Direct X 7. 7 will not overwrite 8 but my programs will not run with 8

I do not think that directX can be uninstalled, or downgraded, unless you are running winME or XP and set a system restore point before you installed dX 8. If you didn't do this, the only other way that I know of to get rid of dX is to remove windows and reinstall it.

As you'll probably have already noted the link to DXUninstaller at DaveCentral is no longer valid. They seem to have taken this program off the net. The other program I found is DirectX Eradicator found at the following site. It removes every file installed by Direct X, trust me I've checked! (about 110 files in total)
