Single solid wire or multistrand? and for what use?

Electrical wholesalers like J.A. Russell or Ideal Electrical etc sell 10 & 16mm2 diameter cable regularly and may have larger sizes available on order but it costs a fortune at normal retail and I'm not sure if they will sell to the public or not.
If you want a short piece super cheap auto has battery cables and the like of course.

looking for single strand 10-12 AWG for antenna.
    Need 4 lengths about 650mm
I remember the old earth cables were multistrand of fairly thick wire.

What about aluminium tube from an old VHF TV aerial ?

Or copper tube, you don't need it solid because of skin effect, you'd be paying for copper you don't use if it's solid.

The old wartime tank whip aerials were copper plated steel.

10-12 awg is only 2.5-2mm. easy enough to find in TPS etc.
    Tweak it till it breaks

I'm told copper is best if you can get it.
Could use tubing but it would have to be small diameter.
This thing will be sitting up on our roof & don't want it too visible.
Was considering a 5mm tube for the vertical.

TPS is probably no use to you, that's the cable Sparkies use for house wiring.

Last Aerial I made I cut down an old VHF TV aerial and reused the parts, they are everywhere and no use for much these days.

    Thanks I googled it.
I had asked at our local Ideal Electrical.
    1.5mm was the thickest single.
They go to multistrand after that.
