I'm glad I'm not an early adopter of MS O/S's. Was happy happy with XP for years, then Vista (once it was fully updated) and now 8.1. Can't see any need whatsoever in the foreseeable future to upgrade, and when I do I'll almost certainly skip 10.

Wainuitech is taking it personally it seems.

Look, I went from C64 - Basic, no O/S at all. Then to Workbench. Quite liked that.
Then DOS. funnily I liked DOS, which is odd considering I had used a GUI.

Then Win3, then 95,98, XP, and then 7.
(Used NT, 2000 in work situations)

So if I want to go Linux now, I don't see that makes me a dumb user or luddite.

Its a choice. That's actually more of a learning curve than just some new iteration of the same O/S I've used for years.

I don't like the way it's gone, so what?

Because that's his business and he enjoys fixing it, great, doesn't mean we must all love it and stick with it.
The main reason I did for so long, was purely gaming.

Gaming is what drove the industry anyway, improved graphics, therefore the need for new hardware, new hardware so the improved graphics and so on.

OK, ease of use (supposedly) for users is a factor too, but then I can't say MS was a good choice for ease of use.
That's why people had Macs, and now Chromebooks.

And remember the history, why did Mr Wozniack abandon it? Well what was his intention in the first place?
A cheap way for people at home to play around with computers.

Now, it's not cheap and you're not supposedly to play around at all. Just do what they want you to do.

In that case you wont be upgrading past 8.1

Windows 10 is it for the moment and foreseeable future -- they are building on top of each edition instead of bring out a new named version like the past. There wont be any windows 11 etc.

PS. Wonder if piroska is really someone else we know under a new name -- To strange that a new user, same day joins all of a sudden posting similar to someone else, AND on this thread. Its happened before and does already, same person different logon names.

ha, if he's on 8.1 , he running the very first version of 10 . Or major parts of it. :-)

I see MS actually offer a version of 10, , doesnt have all the crap , and updates dont include feature updates & games etc AND doesnt get crap added into Updates
Unfortunately they dont want the masses to have it (its Enterprise only)

"LTSB Doesn’t Include the Store, Cortana, Edge, and Other Apps
Windows 10 LTSB omits a lot of the new stuff in Windows 10. It doesn’t come with the Windows Store, Cortana, or Microsoft Edge browser. It also omits other Microsoft apps like Calendar, Camera, Clock, Mail, Money, Music, News, OneNote, Sports, and Weather"

Offer that up to the public & watch 10 sales increase again. I'd buy it.
But it doesnt have MS Store, so MS will never let us near it . Even if MS store is a bit of a flop .

No Mystery who Piroska is no need to wonder, it's stated in the first post from them.

I personally see no point sticking with 8.1 unless you just prefer the look of the menu and even then tablet mode on windows 10 is very close to the same.
All windows 10 really is is 8.1 plus a few interface tweaks and fixes many of which address the criticisms people had over 8.0/8.1. Of course they didn't stop there and it's probably diverged a bit with all the updates.
I use 8.1 at work and 10 at home and the menu is the only time i notice there's a difference.

I have a habit of defending windows 10 when I don't really feel that strongly about it. If people prefer Windows 7, or 8.1, or Linux, or whatever then that's nothing to do with me and they are perfectly entitled to that preference. You can't be wrong about what you like after all. Why I often jump in is a lot of people give 10 no more than a cursory glance or a short try and declare it to be rubbish and start comparing it to Vista or something, which is really not justified. For the most part 10 is stable and fast and actually lighter on system resources than 7. Yeah it's made a lot of changes to how it does things and if you don't like them I get it, for me that's a fleeting annoyance I quickly got over.

How can you skip W10 as they say its going to be the last one.

    Its well proven now.
So now is the time to get it, before you get left further behind.
(You should have got it last year when it was free to upgrade)
So what colour is your Adkaf?
