    The big dry affects the wildlife too. There are birds in the neighbours peach tree, eating green small peaches.
    They've had a go at my not ripe grapes too.

    Desperate, so no, birds are not really a reliable test.

    Plums ripen pretty fast though, and they go from firm but ripe to mushy and past it in no time.
    Getting that right in the middle is tricky.

    I am not a fan of yellow plums anyway, a bit insipid, give me Black Doris any day.

    "Louisa" is our favourite. We went to a lot of trouble to plant one 5 years ago but they are becoming more common
