Default Places in Chch to try/buy headphones?

I recently made the foolish decision to convert half of my home office into a sewing area for the Wife who has started a boutique sewing business since she went on maternity leave in March.

I need to pick up some decent headphones to use in lieu of my speakers but it's been so long since I bought something at a physical store that I don't know where to start. Are there any stores in Christchurch with a decent range that I can try?
I'm leaning towards Sennheiser as I have a good history with their products but my knowledge is easily 10 years out of date now. I mostly listen to rock and metal but in my old age I am slowly introducing more pop into my regular listening so I guess I'd value punchy response, deep bass and decent highs. I know that I'm ok losing some mid range accuracy if the highs and lows are worth the sacrifice. I'm looking to spend $200-$300 and I don't want anything "hip" like Beats by Dre etc.

Any recommendations of stores or headphones appreciated!

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD202 wired headphones they sound great. I got them from a PBtech sale. There is a branch in Hornby, that is where I would start looking.

Oh and they have a decent cable length too.

Do you have a listening post there https://www.listeningpost.co.nz/ they would have all the headphones out to listen to.
Also I think JB HIfi tend to have a good setup.

    !
    Really, why?
Far better to go online and via Pricespy or Priceme search out who has the ones you like, at the best price.
Sit back and await the courier.

    Listening Post in Mandeville St.

Got a nice set of Audio Technica MSR7's for a good price.
Spent ages reading reviews but nothing beats actually trying them (I would have been well disappointed if I had bought what I was going to).

And which ones exactly does he like? When they haven't been listened to?

Anyone got any recommendations for ON ear type headphones ? I can't handle the type that cover over my whole ears, after 10 mins my whole head is sweating and I start to feel bad. I need some airflow around my ears.

Audio Technica ATH-M50's have always been pretty good value for $. My only complaint is the vinyl ear muff parts get uncomfortable if wearing for more than an hour or so. You can buy velvet type ones off ebay/amazon that fixes that issue. I use those at home and Bose QC35's when out and about, because noise cancelling is life.

Ha, wait you want on ear, nope, don't know of anything.

I hear that. I spent a hundy-odd on some a few years ago and used them for 10mins then they got filed somewhere for that very reason.
