Does anyone here have much experience in trading/selling stamps? I inherited a sizeable collection of predominantly South African stamps which I'd like to sell. If you have any advice I'd be grateful.

Absolutely none whatsoever, but I'd definitely get multiple quotes if they're at all valuable.
Suggestion -- contact a local stamp dealer they should be able to advise a real value. http://www.nzsda.com/index.html The members list gives details and locations.
Yep. Husbands mum had stamps when she died....
You take them to a stamp dealer and get a valuation.
Then go from there.

Unfortunately there're no dealers here in Napier or Hastings, and cos they're in 3 large albums it'll cost a packet to send and have returned. But I have to do something with them... the value of one I've already found was valued at GBP1600 by Stanley Gibbons in London. This was for an example in Mint condition, which mine isn't, but clearly its gonna be worth my efforts. I'll probably have to scan them all, which will take forever, so i can see it being a work in progress for quite a while. Or I might just wait for my brother in Auckland to visit later this year and get him to deal to it for me.

And if you have that valuation already, why not just go straight to the auctioneers?
Dunbar Sloane for instance.

I am sure they advise by phone , they will ask the right questions.
