Sounds as if you may have a false activation by an enterprising gent called "Mr Daz". These activation's have to be renewed periodically as they expire. I would probably install Windows 7, you can probably pick up copy on TradeMe. Alternatively you could re install Vista, for which you should have a key.

Better yet, pick up a cheap (genuine) copy of Windows 7 from Trade Me and use that key to activate Windows 10.

Might be lucky to pick up Windows 7 at a cheap price on TM

Also Microsoft may close the Windows 10 assistive technology upgrade with the Creator Update

You can still do a fresh install of 10 and activate with a 7 or 8 product key.
Don't think that will go away.

    For the original poster...

PM me and I will give you a legit license key for Windows 7... you can use that to activate windows 10, re-install Windows 10 or at the very least contact MS and use it to get them to sort it out for you.

Shameless hijack, but will a win 7 installation, e.g on an ex-lease comp, still do an in place upgrade to win 10? Seems to be implied in above posts.

Or does it have to have "assistive technology"??

Apparently, MS doesn't do much if anything to confirm the "requester's" actual need/use of assistive technology. I haven't tried this myself so not sure it will still work. Might try it on a VM when I get the chance. See here

The free upgrade option is finished, however for now it seems you can still do a clean install and use the old key and get the upgrade that way. A spare hard drive would seem the easiest way to give it a go if you have one, save having to reinstall the original OS if it fails. Not sure how assistive technology fits into the equation though.

Would not be waiting around as the loophole may disappear using Windows 7 to upgrade

    http://www.alphr.com/microsoft/micro...f-you-use-this

Know once having Windows 10 installed you can go back to Windows 7/8/8.1 or change at will
