    Default Security Camera and Software

    Hi

Has anyone setup security camera around their house with software linked to their PC ?
Can it be done without calling alarm companies to install them?

Can the security camera be linked up to a software and can any PC access it so they can see the house?

If i'm going overseas I probably want to check the security from a PC overseas.

    Thanks

Some of the cloud ones let you use a browser. So you can check from anywhere.

Quite a few now use Android apps. Dont know if you can check them from overseas tho. Should be pretty easy tho if you set up wireless cameras. You wont need a lot of wiring

Dont think you have to use an alarm company. I wouldnt

Great software, caught my ex wife cheating on me. Recommended.

I just helped to set one up recently. A known brand that I expected better from

Not fully compatible with new version of IE (or FF etc), so many options couldnt be accessed . At all. No new software available .
Default viewing program didnt work, at all (possibly was based on IE ?) . Had to veiw from browser which only partly worked.
The remote access/veiwing through the internet used a DynDns sort of service : garrrh , just awefull all around .
He really needed a static internet internet IP .
The actual cam hardware worked perfectly . And the Android app seemed to work nicely.

There was no way the average user would be able to get this to work.
wasnt hard, only if youve done similar stuff before : set static IP on cam, change cams port no, setup port forward on router , access externally via internet IP with port no etc

Also, keep in mind, these things are well known for being hacked into. Change the default password at least

Step 1) Get a camera that works with Sighthound
Step 2) Port-forward to Sighthound on your PC
Step 3) DynDNS if you don't have a static IP
    Step 4) Profit

No need to change password coz you don't need to port-forward to the camera itself, so it can't be accessed externally except through Sighthound which you'll setup details inside of the application itself

How do I know if the camera supports the software?

Mine wasn't on the list, an el-cheapo TP-Link Wireless one. Still worked easy as though! :-)
