You have chosen decent hardware, buy whatever monitor you fancy - whatever resoltion it has will be handled by the GPU, so that's all that matters.

A 970 isn't going to run games at 4k on high settings well. Older games? Probably. Newer stuff on medium? Maybe. You also need to be mindful of VRAM usage.
