    Unhappy Bugger!

Went home a couple hours ago after being at g/f's place for a few days to find that I've been burgled. The slimy shi*s didn't get away with much - so far only noticed my lovely TV and ominously, my diver's knife. Damaged a window to get in and also weirdly the back door lock. Ironically each time I return home with a sense of trepidation, given that it's a pretty lousy part of town.

    *sigh*
Bugger the cancer. I'm suffering from terminal inertia.

Gee Greg, you have my sympathy. We were done over many years ago when we were in a similar area in Auckland. Barstewards took only a couple of things after scaling a drainpipe to get in. The police came and made a lot of mess with their fingerprint stuff but to no avail. Said it looked like kids.

Bad luck Greg. They will always get in if determined enough. I hope you had insurance to cover your loss and damage.

Sometimes its not the obvious things you find they have taken either...............it could be months down the track when you notice something else is missing..........

years ago we were broken into, when my son was home alone.............. he rang me............ while my daughter rang the cops and she went home to check, she was assaulted on the driveway when she turned up, but boy was under the bed fine turns out she knew them, but we couldnt find fingerprints in the house to prove they were there
we have since got a bigger dog lol as locking the house doesnt mean they wont get in, but it is unlikely they will try with him on duty now....
Im not trying to be difficult it just comes naturally.

Sympathies, Greg - I was burgled some years ago, I know what it's like.

In my case they also took a card version of my Boatmaster Certificate. They also took a electronic card version of my Aus Passport Visa. I don't know they ever used that or in fact could have - one swipe and it'd be pretty obvious to Immigration they weren't the passport holder.

On the brighter side, the local gendarmes recovered the usual electronic gizmos within the week - top marks to the Papakura police.

Dogs can be the best deterrent. I used to do delivery work of home appliances and we would have to deliver and install fridges and washing machines. Often we would be given a key to the house to get in and people with dogs would lock them in another part of the house to keep the dog away from us. You could always hear the dog barking and trying to get to us. Quite often the dogs were Rottweilers or similar. I imagine a burglar would not have the same protection we had.
