HP Pavilion start problem

Have a Pavilion dv6-2019AX that makes a weak attempt at booting then shuts down.
Fan starts plus power light & a couple of LED's.
Nothing on screen.
Time varies from half a second to 2 seconds.
Same on mains & battery.
System is out of warrenty.
Been running fine until now.
Owner usually just sleeps it, but shut it down this time.
Any ideas.

Yep, tried the first one & may have to do the second.
An internet search on the problem suggested it may be something major.

Just cranking up this thread again.

After speaking with the recomended pepairer, the owner decided to buy a new one.

So after tranfering files to the new, Ive finished up with the old one.

Thought I'd have a crack at resurecting it or at least finding out what was wrong with it.
First dissasembled it.
Was spotless inside, 1 lady owner.
Couldn't find anything out of place.
Cooler was still sealed ok to the chips.
So I repasted that & put it all back together.
Same fault.

Led's don't show long enough to give any helpful code.

The help forums have a veriety of sugestions, from freezing it to attacking the motherboard with a heat gun.

Was wondering if anyone has been down this road before I try some of these ideas.

Have a look at the Capslock Key on the left ( Serious) is there a flashing LED usually on the top right of the Key, if so the problem is the motherboard has failed. ( got a HP here thats doing it)

Generally it relates to the Graphic Chip. Sometimes by heating the chip with a heat gun, and re-flowing the connections gets it going again. BUT its not reliable and will fail again or not work at all.

I think it was showing a LED there but none of them were flashing.
Can't check right now, it's on ice for a few hrs to check out a theory.
Just whatched a youtube video of a guy heating the graphics chip with a blow torch.
Had a pile of coins on it presumably to hold it down & obsorb some of the heat.

DV-6's are well known for Overheating and causing problems on the motherboard, normally the Graphic Chip.

Theory I'm trying atm.
Some people have had some success with chilling the thing minus battery for a few hrs.
It will then boot up & run ok as long as you keep the power on it.
Just let it sleep.
It's when you power it down it dies again.
If that dosent work, I may try plan B.
Got nothing to loose, it's bu--ered anyway.

Looking at the problem as to "whats really happening" is simple -- The chipset is losing contact with the motherboard, once it makes contact again by either heating or cooling, its fine as long as it keeps the contact. As soon as it cools down again and loses contact, it wont go, because the joints have let go again. This action of heating/cooling is why the re-flowed joints also fail.

The PS3 used to have that problem (yellow Light Of Death) Re-flow the chips and it went fine for a few weeks, then it failed again

So its not really a fix its pure luck its going and will fail.
