Windows 11 Latest Tech Preview

Just a small questions for you guys whose brains are working a hell of a lot better than my worn out grey matter.

I did an upgrade to 11 initially which was a huge size. As a result of this I downloaded the installation files and made a boot USB. Did a clean OS install and reinstalled all my programs and had a lean mean system which, as planned, halved the file size. Had the odd booting problem so went into settings to se what was going on and saw that my SSD with the OS on it had flipped from Disk 0 to Disk 1. Don't know whether that was the problem but I used 11 for a few days, but not going to deep into the functions, as I am a bit past that sort of thing now, I was a bit disappointed with it. Seemed they had changed things for the sake of changing. For example the simple right click Copy and paste is gone and a couple of icons instead. Unless you go to "more Options" They also suggest the keyboard shortcuts as well. Bugger, I thought, Ill go back to 10 for a while as there is plenty of support till 2024 and I'm getting past learning new stuff.

So, I did a backup restore using Acronis. Then I was happy again. I did notice that The Disks had flipped again and the OS is back to Disk 0.

Any thoughts on the flipping?

Kenj - By Any chance is there another HDD Attached ? This can happen if you have a second ( or third) drive attached when installing. ( sometimes if installing from USB it can play up). Generally its not a problem as the OS sorts out the order.

If it bothers then change over the SATA cables and they should change.

I have one workshop PC ( bit older) and when I change drive ( every other day ) the original OS wont boot again, have to go into the BIOS and change the Boot order, the Boot Manager is what its booted from not the default setting of the drive.

I'm running Win11 on a 775 and 1150 system now Stu. Works fine.

Thanks WT, There is a 1GB HDD for storage and I wondered if that might confuse matters. Being a Laptop, (without opening it up) doesn't things plug in rather than being wired. I understand desktops as I used to do hardware upgrades for people years ago. No problems now though. Happy to be back with W10for a while. Would the thing to try when I eventually get round to migrate to W11, would be to pull the HDD before installing?

There two ways laptops connect the drives, either plug into SATA ports off the motherboard, or they have a cable that runs from the Drive to the port Connection. Either way you have to open them up to get to them. Some have a Cover that you unscrew screws some have 1 screw some have more and theres the drives, others you have to take it apart, again depending on how old and design the whole bottom comes off others its a bit more time consuming.

I love the laptops where the HDD just slides out the side in a tray.
Most of them you have to take off a panel or remove the entire bottom of the laptop and sometimes take out secondary boards like USB ports etc as well.

A few you needed to completely strip it down. Had to remove the laptop motherboard just to access the HD
Who gave that design the OK ?
