"What have they got to lose?"

The feeling of being in total control over the computer usage of millions of people.

Software engineers like to feel they are at the top of the tree, not to mention upper-level management.
It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

The so-called 'incompatible' hardware is just a lame excuse for limiting the 'Free' updating to their new OS - from my view.

Why not they just charge a fee and let everyone start updating it? What have they got to lose?
The excuse they are using is some of the older hardware is not secure enough and also you wont get full usage as some older hardware cant run certain functions.

Security -- Its already been proven that Hackers if they really know what they are doing can bypass the TPM2 restrictions.

This Office PC for example, everything passes except the CPU, its to old. Not really worried about this PC, I'll replace it maybe next year, I'll slowly buy components when they come available (there's a world wide Shortage of CPU's Motherboard s and Graphic Cards) Basically anything that has chips.

What has been more stunning is the amount of people excusing this behaviour by Microsoft- I've been called everything from a know nothing to a conspiracy theorist for complaining about this, normally by idiots who just assume that this really amounts to more effective security.

I forsee them extending the EOL on Win 10 multiple times.

Will an 'Upgrade' option keep all the programs like Office, etc. ?

How to do an 'Upgrade'? Fresh install is easy, just boot from the USB.

1st make sure you have a Image backup ( just in case) With the computer running normally, Plug in the USB drive, open the drive with the OS, It will look like this: ( this USB has the modified W11)

Name:	USB OS.png
Views:	14
Size:	27.0 KB
ID:	11195

Double click the Setup.exe and follow the prompts /options. HINT:1st Window -- When it asks to change how setup downloads Updates -- Click it and select Not Right Now.

Saves any problems with incompatible drivers. You can run updates after the upgrade.

At one point it will ask if you want to keep the current data, programs etc, as long as you do, then yes keep.

DO NOT Boot from the USB Drive, you cant upgrade from it, only fresh install.

In regard to the question of running Win 11 on unsupported hardware, here is quite an interesting article:

It is about other things as well, but scroll down a bit and you'll find it.

So should you run win 11 on unsupported hardware cos you can, or is it best to stay with 10 ?

My personal (and admittedly slightly chicken) take is that unless you are happy to take risks that your PC might be bricked, stick with Win10.

I did by making the PC dual boot. Works fine.

Back to the subject of this thread: Build 22504 downloading now. Usual fixes, plus changes to the your phone app and new themes for various things. Yippee!
