I found the right search terms! You download Sysinternals and do it from there.

Yep using the right search terms will always give different answers. Often its a simple case of wording correctly for what you want

Totally understand what they are trying to do, but seriously its still not going to stop people clcicking on "whatever" and gettting any infections. Are they going to Gurantee that by going to w11 it will stop malware, etc

Mind you could be a buisy time for a while seeing if peoples PC's can run it.
They had all this in a video and ended up disabling comments on it because the backlash was so strong.

Like/Dislike ratio still there though, dislikes leading 20:1 atm lol

That seems way more favourable than it merits
(But, not even all the heads of sales divisions voted for it, so there is still some small shred of integrity in Redmond.)

Just reading some of the comments -- Not looking to good if they insist on forcing the hardware requirements esp for CPU's that work perfectly fine, most motherboards can either have a TPM Module added or enabled in the BIOS.

Haven't read them all, but a couple early on are true.

When in 2025 Microsoft realizes that hundreds of millions of PCs won't upgrade they will have no choice but extend the security support for Windows 10.
No one seems to whine when Apple discontinues support for older hardware with the new OS versions, yet MS gets crapped on.. Oh well.

Are you suggesting it's because people are unfairly mean to Microsoft? I think it's more likely Apple fans suffer from severe Stockholm syndrome.
The last one especially , how many Apple users line up or "Have" to have the latest gadget they put out

Does look like the cycle is staying true to form

    Win95 - good
    Win98 - bad
    Win98SE - good
WinME - bad (I'm ignoring Win2000 and all of the WinNT releases)
    WinXP - good
    WinVista - bad
    Win7 - good
    Win8 - bad
    Win10 - good
    Win11 - not looking good
    Time will tell

Edited: on another Note looks like the next installment / Upgrade is out - https://blogs.windows.com/windows-in...ild-22000-120/

I think Win11 "not looking good" may be true in the "will people use it" sense, but I think it is a marketing/political issue rather than a technical one. If you ignore the hardware requirements the actual OS looks pretty good. It will be interesting to see if MS bows to consumer pressure and gradually morphs Win10 into "Win 11" over time via the usual updates.

Just noticed that the Volume Mixer is integrated in to the settings app now- very nice! the old one was long due for a facelift.

    From Paul Thurrott- https://www.thurrott.com/windows/win...s-start11-beta

Looking forward to trying this tonight, the dumbed down start menu in my opinion is the worst thing about 11 and using the 10 start menu registry hack just looks weird.

Anyone who is unhappy about the “fresh yet familiar” Windows 11 Start menu will want to check out Stardock’s Start11, which is now available in beta. It costs just $4.99.

“This first beta is designed to regain some of the lost functionality in the current Windows 11 Start menu,” Stardock CEO Brad Wardell said. “We have a lot of exciting new features planned to make the Start menu not just more accessible, but also more useful to companies and power users.”

That should be music to many ears, based on the feedback we’ve seen for the new Start menu, which is attractive and has some interesting new features but is not particularly customizable and has lost much of the functionality of its predecessor.

To that end, Start11 lets users restore the Start menu designs from previous Windows versions, and it will be extended during the beta to add what Mr. Wardell says is “a host of new Start menu ideas such as the concept of pages, tabs, minimalism, and features for enterprise customers.”

According to Stardock, key features of the current beta include your choice of multiple Start menu layouts, compatibility with both Windows 10 and Windows 11, integration with Stardock Fences, search, and the ability to add color and texture to the Start menu and taskbar.

I just read about Stardock Start1 as well1, and it definitely looks like it is worth checking out.
