Yippee! I have a working Windows 11 PC! (Well nearly, I still don't have Directx12 but MS seems relaxed about that at the moment.) I've installed build 22000.100, which took a while, but it all seems to be working fine. I suspect the slowness is due to a very old HDD. Maybe I'll go all 21st century and put in a M2 SSD.

Well looks like we finally got confirmation: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Window....552733.0.html

the reason we're doing that is to keep devices more productive, have a better experience, and most importantly have better security than before so they can stay protected in this new workforce."

Wait for Microsoft to start pushing Windows 365. Bet ya boots they will allow almost any OS to connect.

W11 will be a flop if existing perfectly good hardware cant work. Not everyones going to go out and buy new hardware.

Totally understand what they are trying to do, but seriously its still not going to stop people clcicking on "whatever" and gettting any infections. Are they going to Gurantee that by going to w11 it will stop malware, etc

Mind you could be a buisy time for a while seeing if peoples PC's can run it.

I think I need to start a new thread - "The fried PC - the final chapters".
After I don't know how many attempts I have finally got Win 11 installed on the M.2 SSD with no other storage, and it is really fast. It was complicated because I was installing from a secure USB stick which needed the passcode entered after the POST but before the actual boot, which required a certain speed of coordination.
All I have to do now is put everything together in the case rather than spread out over my desk.

Is it still possible to automatically boot to a default account? Netplwiz doesn't give you the option any more, and the only registry hack I could find didn't seem to work - although I may have missed something.

What version are you using ( home or Pro) ?

Did read someplace that the Home version may require sign ins and a MS account . I know professional Doesn't. Again as with W10, you have to make sure its not connected to the internet in any way.

The other way is to use a W10 install, then do a inplace upgrade with W11.

It is Win 11 Pro, logged in with a Microsoft account. My other (Win 10 Pro, also with a MS account) machine does login automatically

Both my Win 10 and 11 pro both auto login. Trying to remember what I did to get Win 11 doing it. Both using MS accounts.
