Better than a 'rainbow' pedestrian crossing in Welly that cost between $60 and 70k.

But with our Council that's not surprising.

But the problem is only temporary. The majority of the time aircraft land from the eastern end of the airport when the wind is blowing from the west (the prevailing wind) and so land on runway 23 left. Only very occasionally do aircraft land from the western end on runway 05 right when the wind is blowing from the east.

So it is not as though someone made a mistake. It may not have been a waste of money as B.M. makes out. The vast majority of the time aircraft land from the east so if the passengers are looking out the window they might see the sign. But I think that most overseas travellers would have no idea what it meant, anyway. So perhaps it might have been better to make a sign saying, "Gidday."

Correct. It's like the Wellington sign on the hills at Mapuia. It only gets seen by people arriving in to R16 if they're sitting on the left, but it still isn't a huge error.

It hurts me to have to point out that International Aeroplanes don’t have glass fuselages and therefore getting to see "The Sign", regardless of which way you land, is a very long shot.

Let me explain.

Firstly you need a Window Seat.

If you are traveling Cattle Class on a 787 the seating is probably 3+3+3

That means that only 2 out off 9 have any chance of seeing the sign because everyone is strapped in with their seatbelts.

Now only one of the two will get to see the sign, because you can’t see under the plane from side to side.

Therefore, only 1 in 9 has any chance at this stage.

Not so.

The Window Seats of row 12 to 22 only let you view the top of the wing so that is another 22 with Window Seats and no chance of seeing the sign.

To sum up, I make it only 10 out of 198 have any chance of saying Kia-Ora, what the hell does that mean?

Don’t know what they’re smoking but I want some.
