    Exclamation tracing Aircraft

It seems to me to be ridiculous that the information gathered by the 'Black Box' should go down with the plane!
Surely it would be quite simple for the the 'Black Box' to transmit a backup via satellite to aircraft control and the Airline. With Sat-nav they could pinpoint the position at any time.

Why not suggest that the tyres broadcast their position? They are also not transmitters.
The "Black Box" is primarily a relatively simple, very reliable and extremely rugged piece of equipment. Adding complexity to anything is not a great way to maintain reliability or improve performance as demonstrated by the committee or parliamentary examples.

To be a fence sitter I agree with both of you. The data should be transmitted somewhere as well as stored on the black box - but as a duplication not as a feature of the box itself. Also in these days when my boss can tell where I've been in my car all day it seems ridiculous that they can still lose aeroplanes. Time to upgrade the inbuilt systems I think.

Just make passengers leave their cellphones switched on. You can find them no trouble at all.

this was on the news the other night.
satellite usage is expensive and there is a lot of planes in the air to track and record. with many airlines barely making a profit and some not at all, they will be very reluctant to spend the $$$.

    Cost is the biggest factor.

The Technology is available but from the past the attitude has been costs outways possible something happening. Take how many planes fly every day all over the world, Thousands - how many go missing ? To bad if you happen to be on the ones that do go AWOL.

Yeah and how much does a massive international search for a missing aeroplane cost, but I guess the airlines don't fund that.
If you had to pay a little extra for an airline that had modern tracking technology I think some people would, whether or not that would make a company stay in business who knows.
