    Default Publisher question

Is there any other program that can open a PUB. file?

We have publisher at work, and i have work to bring home on a hard drive but neither of my machine can open file, the microsoft page pops up and asks for me to either buy or have a free trial. publisher is quite expensive isnt it?

any other suggestions or programs i can use................ i could start new work, but if i want to put them back into the publisher prog at work i would need to save them as?
Im not trying to be difficult it just comes naturally.

Basically NO. You can convert a .pub file to other formats, but it wont be the same, or be able to edit it ( in most cases)

You can buy publisher Example: http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspeci...?ItemID=412362

But for its price you would almost be better off using Office 365 Home Pre. Example: http://office.microsoft.com/en-nz/office365home/

Can you get the Microsoft Home Use Program through your work?

$10 for Office Professional Plus 2013 must be just about the best deal going.

dont have the $$ at the moment, but will look into it. are those full programs? or trial progs?

question if i use word to do this work and then take to work and open it - then can i save these pages to an existing PUB document or will it conflict and neither will be happy to perform back or forth at all ?

The only program that will open a publisher file for editing is publisher. That's what sucks about the program. That and MS sucks at creating desktop publishing software.

It looks like you can only rent publisher on a monthly basis (somewhat like Adobe CC)

Pretty much any of the modern Office products.

    MS Word = Paid

WPS Office ( formally Kingsoft office) = Free http://www.ksosoft.com/product/office-free.html

Example of Writer / Word Art:

Open Office ( I suspect -dont actually use open)

If you install WPS office LOOK at what is pre ticked DONT just go Next , Next etc other wise it will install a couple of extra speed up type programs.

question if i use word to do this work and then take to work and open it - then can i save these pages to an existing PUB document or will it conflict and neither will be happy to perform back or forth at all ?
If you create something in a word style program, would pay to carry on, other wise you'll end up in a big mess.

InDesign CC from Adobe. It 100x better than publisher and it's the publishing industry standard. You will have a learning curve but it is well worth it.

Slight problem with that -- You have to look at the bigger picture ( or read the whole thread ) its for work, so what ever is used at home has to be compatible with work as well. It would be a real PITA to have to convert documents back and forth each time if using different programs.

Along with the comment in #5
The only program that will open a publisher file for editing is publisher
So if InDesign was used, all the publisher files would have to be converted ( there is conversion software) and InDesign would have to be available at work at even more expensive -- Think we know what the chances of that happening will be
