Default Car Sat Nav recommendations please

As the title says - I'm after some recommendations for car sat nav devices, and also any I should avoid. Had a look around the Noel Leemings' and Harvey Norman's websites and there are TomToms, Garmins, Navmans (to name a few) and don't know anything about any of them. Thanks!

I'm interested in this too. Daughter is moving towns soon and has a birthday coming up.

Where you want to use it has some bearing.

Navman is good map wise, (In NZ & Aus anyway) but the Maori pronunciation of place names or roads is diabolical.

I live in Wellington, so predominantly Greater Welly. Sometimes the odd trip to other parts of NZ (e.g. Havelock North, Palmy, Matamata, Tauranga, Auckland, Hamilton, Alexandra, ChCh, Nelson.... think that caovers all the whanau!)

Wow!!! I'm really stoked to hear that they are now only diabolical, as that sounds like a significant improvement!

One street name we were looking for was Pupuke and Navman pronounced it poo-puke, while even european names were commonly mangled. There were a number of other equally gruesome examples, but I have noted that Pupuke is now pronounced correctly, as are many other maori names, and european names are also getting better. I think the problem is the software they use, which I'm guessing assembles street name pronunciations from a menu of syllables, consonants and miscellaneous sounds.

    Cheers

We just use the maps feature on my fiances iPhone 6. If we go somewhere and hire a car then we request a GPS unit and use that. Either solution works fine. If you don't like the idea of getting an iPhone then get anAndroid phone and use the maps app on that.
Working on a few different projects.
