    Default Mobile Internet - Sattelite

Hey does anyone know where I might be able to get mobile satellite internet? Everywhere I look uses dishes, but I'm wanting it for a vehicle that will be out of standard mobile coverage. It's needed for internet though, not calling.

    Thanks!

It wouldnt be satellite if it didnt use a dish would it? Probably cheaper if you use a cell/smartphone as a modem. It wont be fast, but you'll get online

How do satphones work then? I'm currently using a pocket WiFi from Spark, but it doesn't have reception where we're needing it

Expect to pay some serious money for this sort of service

You can hire them. Usually its around NZD$10-ish per MB. Where are you going that needs coverage? What's it going to be used for?

If you are not too far from getting a signal
this or similar may be sufficient (I used a similar one here for a while)

some of the pocket wifi 3g modems are a bit underwhelming as far as picking up a marginal signal

Yeah I used something similar but smaller for mounting on the roof of a car. Bought it from Cellutronics in Christchurch (I'm in Auckland but they ship real quick).

We've also used WiFi repeaters to boost the signal as well so we can get it somewhere there's no 3G internet.

Let us know a bit more about what you're wanting it for and I'm sure we can help
