I fixed it! I open up my case today to install a CM Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler and I looked at the firewire header where I plugged in the header cable. It was in the USB 1394 header not the 1394 header! Sorry Speedy, I may have wasted your time there. But you did alert me to it last night, so I give you the credit. I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Sweet! Lucky it didnt blow the port. Both headers are 9 pin and the manual will warn you NOT to plug USB into it

Ah, sometimes boards don't have the silkscreen directly next to the component, especially if there are some parts right next to each other. In that case they often put a list above the whole bunch of parts, with the location of the names in the list matching the physical layout of the parts.
