Connecting Seagate Central with Telecom VDSL Modem

I have a 4TB Seagate Central Shared Storage drive. Unfortunately I can't work out how to connect it to my network. I recently moved house and went from a Fibre connection to VDSL. We went with the Telecom modem which is a Technicolor TG589vn v2. It seems I need a modem/router with an Ethernet port. Do I need to replace the Telecom modem or can I do anything else? I have a couple of older routers from my ADSL days if they can be utilised in any way.

I've not had very much luck with the TG589Vn series, for the better part there was issues with DHCP not giving out leases and other stupid things that *really* put me off them.

Unfortunately trying to utilize an ADSL router on a VDSL2 connection isn't going to do you much good, different technologies.

Basically at first you need to hook the Seagate drive up to your network through the ethernet port, and then "tell" the device how to connect to your WiFi network.

How do I go about that? The modem only has Ethernet out ports - not an Ethernet in. Or are you saying I could use one of my old routers for the config and then not use it any more?

There's no difference. Just plug the router into the hard drive. Ethernet ports aren't a "one way" thing.

So when I log in to the laptop I should see the drive as a network device?

I have my Synology DS209+ simply connected to my TG589vn with a short ethernet cable. It appears on my network as a device and everything can see it ok. Assuming everything is operating correctly on your network I cannot see any reason why your Seagate Storage Drive would not work the same way.

You *may* need to do some initial setup first, but yeah, that's basically the theory...

It has a built in 5-port switch - with one port connected internally to the xDSL router. Nothing special there, just a bog-standard switch. You can connect whatever you like to it; another switch, another WAP, NAS, PC, whatever.
