Default Sync Outlook on Windows Surface tablet and Laptop - How To

What I want to do appears simple, but I cant find out how to do it.

I run Outlook on my laptop. I want to be able to sync my Outlook calendar and contacts with the newly installed Outlook on my Windows Surface RT, running windows 8.1.

I am already able to sync emails one to the other, but simply can't work out how to sync the other essential stuff.

What email address do you have?
If you setup an outlook.com account you can sync emails calendars and contacts.
A gmail account will possibly do this as well but may not be free.

I have a gmail address - for all sorts of good reasons.

I have an outlook.com account, and will try again through tat, but the syncing down to the tablet is the problem.

Google purposely turned off this functionality, they have stopped support Exchange ActiveSync on gmail accounts

You could consider migrating your Gmail account into Outlook.com which natively supports this
