Are they of use to any one?

No, they are pre digital.

No problem recording freeview or sky I do with my pre freeview HDD Recorder.

do they only do normal tv recording or could they be used to record via RCA?

Oh they can dub from dv tape to hdd or dvd, what do you want for one?

I have the Sony RDR-HX750 and I use it for dubbing from video tape to DVD, record from my Freeview STB and also from Sky. The only thing is you can only set it up to record from one channel only using the timer, which is no problem for me as I haven't found that an issue in the 5 years since I have had it.
