Default When shutting down Windows 95 an error message 'EMM386: Unrecoverable privileged operation error #01 - press ENTER to reboot' appears.

I recently added a SCSI controller card to my Compaq Pentium 233 running win95 and ever since I get this message on shutdown. The ENTER key does not work and I have to turn the power off to shut the PC down.

When you installed the scsi card, a device driver may have also been loaded into your config.sys file.
Open your config.sys file with a text editor and check to see that the scsi driver if any, appears before the memory manager line, device=c:\windows\emm386.exe.
If it appears after, then move it to above the emm386.exe line.
This will ensure that the driver gets loaded into conventional memory rather than upper memory, reducing the possibility of a memory conflict.
Another thing to try is putting a rem infront of the emm386 line to prevent it loading at all ie.
    rem device=c:\windows\emm386.exe

but you may then get other memory problems. Check in Device Manager for any memory conflicts.

Does the SCSI card load its own BIOS extension? Does it work normally, apart from this windows problem? What make & model SCSI card? what device(s) does it drive? ...
