    Default Landline scam?

Just had a guy (of asian persuasion) call, offering me a discount on my landline. He was very confused when I told him I didn't have a landline but used voip. He did not know what that was, and I could not be bothered explaining, so just hung up.
Am I right in thinking that this is some type of scam going around?

Telecom are ringing around at the moment trying to get you to change over to them. Had a call a week or so ago.

Telecom or their agents are seldom aware of what day it is.

hmmm........ he did not actually say who he was calling on behalf of. So I don't think it was Telecom, and he pronounced my surname incorrectly like he didn't understand English very well.

Bit of a tricky name there Mrs Lakewoodlady. Be easier if you were something like Mrs Smith.

I addition to the landline deal, Telecom is offering you the global insecurity of their Yahoo / MSN / Random garbage email services as well.

Best to get in quick on that deal, coz if they ever improve on it the value of it can only go up!

There is a benefit to having the surname of Smith ( or similar ) and that is if anyone with that name does something it is very easy to disown them.
