You have already spent more on cell phones than breaking the Orcon contract and going back to a reliable phone that you know your alarm would work with at about 99.99% or so reliability. It is not too late.

You are quite right of course.

Are you wanting it to just call a single number, or is this dialling a variety of numbers in general?

At present I only want it to dial 111 if needed and my taxi driver 021xxxxxx.. My push button phone is working and set up. It's only the galaxy 3 I have trouble with. After my problems with the LG I didn't like being beaten and thought a more expensive phone might be easier to use. A bad case of wishful thinking.

It shouldn't be difficult for you to go to the store, have them set you up with both as a contact, and then have them put both those contacts on your Home Screen. That means you switch on your phone, hit the contact, and at most have to hit the "dial" button. This could go for both emergency services, as well as your taxi driver.

It's more expensive cause it has more "features". Stick with the old style one.
