    Default Faulty Ocz Vertez II is it fixable or waste of time

    My old hard drive was sounding a bit cranky so I tried to back up my operating system ( Vista )to a 90gb sshd through a cloning hub (All In 1 HDD Dock ). It put on the partitions on and then I could do nothing more through disk management. It would accept instructions then hang the computer on the quick format. I thought I could rescue it with a linux instal ( Linux Mint )but although it recognised the drive it said bad sectors were preventing loading. I tried what diagnostics I had but being much of a novice didn't know what else to do. Should I try anything else or consign it to the rubbish binan write it off as a sad and bad investment. I knew not too defragment sshd but didn't know they were this tricky.If it is too difficult, I am happy for anyone who thinks they can fix it to have it as it has cost me too much sleep already. Am I wasting my time. (Trying to fresh re-instal Vista from the instal CD failed with non-fatal drive error message...when I resorted to Linux ) The drives are still visible via usb but I way beyond my level of competence or understanding to know more. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

    Clone the operating system. You can use Active @ or the drive manufacturers clone software or similar.
    Some do so with errors, some don't.
    ACtive @ will.
    Then replace the drive.
    wipe your paws.

    It could be errors from the original drive that are preventing the copy for working?
    Non-system disk or disk error. Replace and strike any key when ready.

    How old is the vertex 2 ? they have a pretty good warranty I think (3 yr?) it might still be covered.
    I'd Check OCZ website for diagnostic utilities and try that, then look and see if they have an RMA process or take it back to where you got it.

    I'm with dugimodo, check and see if you can RMA it. Usually I believe it's the controllers on these that simply gives up the ghost. They improved significantly with their Vertex 4 / Agility 4 series.

    Thanks very much everyone. I'll have a look for the RMA, (???....better google that first ) on the manufactuer's website, then go from there a well as look at Active X..also new to me. I really appreciate the input from you all. I bought the drive off Trademe from someone who said they were putting in a bigger drive...about 2years old but unused til now! Ouch!

    From wikipedia;
    A return merchandise authorization (RMA) or return goods authorization (RGA) is the process of having a product repaired or replaced in order to receive a refund or credit for another product from the same retailer or corporation within the product's warranty period. The RMA process and the issuance of an RMA is a key gatekeeping moment in the reverse logistics cycle. This term is often used in the electronics industry as a part of service agreements, according to which the customer returns the product back to the company and gets a new or repaired product back, generally with an additional warranty on the returned product.
