Default Win 8 & USB Controller

My Win 8 doesn't detect the whole set of USB ports at rear of the PC. It does detect sometimes, though. Below is the screenshot of the error from device manager:

I think that was the prolem with Win8 couldn't detect my mouse and keyboard intermittently - after changing them to another set of USB ports they work OK since then. Didn't suspect it before untill I plugged in my phone just now and it couldn't detect the phone.

All the USB ports were working perfectly OK with Win 7 before I 'downgraded' to the cheap $19.90 Win 8. Is there any way to fix this intermittent problem?

Surely it's not my MB hardware problem as it was working perfectly before with Windows 7. All other USB ports are work OK except this set of 4 ports.

just for a laugh, power down, unplug everything and whack the power button in a few minutes, then leave it. Just in case it's having residual power issues or something. Other than that, I've no idea other than could be a driver issue or something.

Did you install the chipset drivers for your motherboard ? While windows 8 does come with USB support, sometimes they still need the manufactures drivers.

if you right click the non functioning one, properties, Driver, Under properties / from the drop down box/ Hardware ID there will be a series of numbers and letters, do a google search and it will tell you what needs to be installed.

    Welcome to my world.
My USB port/s do that same thing sometimes when I boot up my Asus laptop.
Haven't looked into it as to why it is doing it or how to fix it.
I have the latest Intel chipset driver software installed.
I uninstall and redetect new hardware, in the Device Manager, and that fixes it.

Delete the entry then reboot. Altho on the MS forum, some people were / are having issues with USB 3 ports. After installing a recent update. The computer was similar to yours Bkt

I would say it affects USB 3 ports on ASUS, GB and probably other mobos

My USB3 ports work fine. At the rear, I have, on the top, 4 x USB2 ports (these are the ones giving problem), below that, I have another 3 x USB2 ports; and 2 x USB3 ports and the front panel has 2 x USB2 ports (they all work fine). Just added another 2 x USB2 ports, plugged in to the MB USB2 header. - they are working OK, so far.

Will explore the KB2756872 issue later today when I have to time.

    Yup Win8 Pro.

My USB 3.0 port has never had this issue, it's only the USB2.0 ports, and even then it's usually only one of the controllers and not both.

Well that is nice, but what does that have to do with the topic of this thread?
