SSD for Custom Build

Hey Everyone!

Well I haven't been around here for a while, mainly since I finished my computer "The Lewtim"

Well I've been having issues with it recently so I've decided to do a fresh install of my OS and start again as I know I've been hit with malware. Since I am doing this I've decided I'm going to do something I should have when I built it and that is putting a SSD in it. The only issue is I'm not sure what one to get...

I'm looking at the OCZ VERTEX 4 128GB 2.5" INDILINX EVEREST 2 and also the INTEL 520 SERIES 120GB 2.5" SATA3.

I've been reading reviews everywhere and forum posts all over the place but most of them are around 6 months old so I'm not sure what's more up to date. Most people are saying go to the Intel due to brand and reliability, but the Vertex 4 from what I've seen has some better features.

Would any of you mind pitching in ideas?

My main aim is to put my OS and Adobe suite on there and just move all my other software onto a secondary Hard Drive at this stage.

Personally I would look at Samsung's 830/840 series. Of the two you mention, though, it really is a toss-up. My preference would be the Vertex4, simply because I've had better experiences with Indilinx controllers than SandForce (even though Intel did effectively a custom-build of the SF2281 to fix most of it's flaws for the 520 series).

Yeh I'll echo those sentiments. Take the Vertex 4 over the Intel 520

I'd say go with the Intel just to be different.

We've used quite a few of them now and they've been great.

Just got my OCZ vertex4 installed 2 weeks ago - it's just fantastic, will never go back to mechanical drives!

Highly recommended.

After talking with few forums and doing some trolling, everyone is actually leaning towards the SAMSUNG 830 SERIES 128GB which with the cons I've seen so far seems to be pretty good. Any thoughts?

if you can afford it get the 840, unless you can get the 830 really cheap

As in my previous post, Samsungs 830/840 series would be my pick for overall balance of performance/reliability etc. Side by side with an Agility4, I find the 830 provides much more consistent levels of performance, but does not reach the same peaks as the Agility.

Any particular reason for that? From what I can see the 840 is slower?

Yeah, I have heard a few Samsungs 840 failing....and I cant say its really worth it to get the high end units...I have been using Intel 330's now, and they are great!

You have to be doing SQL queries with big queue depth to see the difference between most SSDs...Real world computing, users wont tell the difference!
