If the thing works and they honor any warranty it has, then I don't see the point in worrying about if it was opened or not.

I deal with Playtech reasonably often, on-line and in-store. The only warranty issue I had was settled in seconds even though I had brought in the wrong sales slip. I would rate them as equal to computer Lounge, right at the top for being helpful and efficient.

I don't want to risk having another open box replacement so have ordered a replacement from elsewhere, but hopefully the RMA process proves smooth. Will update the post to let people know how it goes.
Getting it from someplace else "May" end up costing you more in the long run.
If you look under their warranty page, there is mentioned several times a fee for returns/restocking, which they can charge if they so wish. Since they have offered to send a replacement they are doing everything they are meant to, and really don't have to refund because you changed your mind on the view of the company.

I've never had a problem with Playtech but getting an 'as new' item shouldn't be too worrying as long as they stand by their warranty. But I do reckon that they shouldn't really mark things off as 'New' when it isn't...

As long as they treat it as new in terms of warranty etc then there is no real problem.

I would have no issue with this at all as long as the device itself is in new condition. Of course they will honour the warranty. That's what matters.

In another life I was in retail and so I think I can see both sides. Its always nice to have a boxed item factory sealed and effectively untouched but so many items are unwrapped for display and it does give the customer a chance to carefully inspect the goods as they are repacked on the counter. Also good to check for transit damage. Take a watch in a window at a jewellers I would trust as perfect, bit different to a display model electric kettle handled by a hundred folk I would want a discount. Only the other day I requested a merchant open a box so I could check a products physical dimensions as the photo was unclear. It was willingly done and I declined to purchase on seeing the actual item, but I know the goods were repacked perfectly as I watched them do so. Electronic items...well thats a tricky one as we hear stories of hard drives filled with customer or shop data. Frankly I have heard nought but good things about this retailer and maybe an upfront admission by them (in exchange for a token discount) of an item being opened for inspection or whatever truthful admission might have been a win/win.

I'd be concerned if received something that had been opened with no explanation also, different if it's sold in store but if you are shipping an item it should include a note to explain why the factory seal has been broken at the very least.
Even the best of suppliers no doubt make muck ups occasionally, it's how they deal with them that really tells us what the store is like and to be honest it sounds to me like they have been fairly good. Myself I would most likely have informed them of the issue but still kept the item as long as it functioned as expected but I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect it replaced with a new one.

My first impulse is to call it an overeaction, but if my first experience with a store was like that I'd maybe be inclined to overeact as well. It is after all from your perspective a 100% failure rate in service so far. I have friends who buy from playtech all the time and swear by them, myself I use Computerlounge a lot and pp.co.nz as well and have had excellent service from both.

I now work in retail for a big orange store, we open in front of the customer in our department, anything glass inc mirrors, anything china such as basins and toilets, shower linings as they can be broken in the packet, enfact if it's breakable we open it in front of the customer so that they cannot bring it back and say it was broken when they got it home

Have you given them enough time before you started this thread slagging them.
