    Default Cannot install AV

Have a computer here running Win XP which was sooooooo sloooowwww! Uninstalled Nortons which sped it up heaps. Installed & ran Malwarebytes it found and removed 46 trojans & virus's. Installed SuperAntiSpyware, scanned - all clear. Tried installing MSSE then AVG but they will not install even in safe mode. Have to contact System Administrator to fix. (What sort of crap message is that!!). Anyway is there a way or trick to get MSSE installed, or any AV (apart from Nortons rubbish)

Did you run the Norton removal tool?

And disable system restore, there maybe something in its folders. Then try and installl MSSE. Is XP up to date. It needs SP2 or 3 to install

I've learned that is the first thing to do after uninstalling Nortons, I always run the Norton uninstall tool twice - just to make sure. Sys restore was off and XP had all updates.

Some programs wont run in safe mode. Since some needs services to run. And most services dont run in safe mode. If it wont run in normal windows, whats the error? It must say something. And is SP2 or 3 installed?

I think you need at least SP3 on XP to install MSSE, from what I have found.
Get a hijack this log on here asap and see what speedy says.

Yup, I'm pretty sure you need SP3 before you install MSSE

SP3 is the minimum requirement for the installation of MSE on a Windows XP platform.

You can also do an ESET Online scan first in order to weed out any nasties - that is if your Internet Explorer is still working.
